Project Overview

Building a Better Transit Road: New Bridge & Safer Travel Over Cazenovia Creek

The Transit Road (US Route 20) Bridge and Road Construction Project over Cazenovia Creek is a major infrastructure improvement in Erie County, NY focused on replacing the existing bridge and upgrading the surrounding roadway to improve long-term safety, traffic flow, and reliability. The centerpiece of the project is a new approximately 850-foot-long bridge rising roughly 85 feet above Cazenovia Creek, creating a significantly wider and more durable crossing for this heavily traveled corridor. The work also includes extensive roadway reconstruction and corridor enhancements designed to support daily commuters, local businesses, and regional travel through the West Seneca and Elma area. Once complete, the project will deliver a smoother, safer, and more durable transportation route for the community.

project highlights

Key project highlights preformed.

Relocation of 36" Water Main
Installed approximately 1,300 feet of new 36-inch ductile iron transmission main, including installation beneath Cazenovia Creek and along solid rock embankments. The new main was anchored to rock and encased in concrete as part of the relocation of a critical Erie County Water Authority transmission line.
Existing Bridge Demolition
Demolished and removed the existing US Route 20 bridge over Cazenovia Creek through carefully staged operations, allowing construction of the new bridge to advance while maintaining traffic through this heavily traveled corridor.
Complex Staged Highway Reconstruction
Reconstructing approximately 0.9 miles of US Route 20 while maintaining traffic through the corridor. Construction is being completed in stages, shifting traffic onto portions of the new roadway and bridge to allow demolition and reconstruction while maintaining a travel lane in each direction.
