Cyclists and pedestrians traveling north along this piece of the Empire State Trail system will either chose to ascend the elevated approach to the overlook platform, a place to pause and take in the Buffalo River and surrounding area, or opt for the spur trail, to admire the cast piers of the elevated approach or cast a line at the water’s edge. From the overlook, patrons will pass over I-190 and CSX via a prefabricated steel truss bridge. This had to be erected under nighttime operations using a rolling I-190 closure. Passengers may admire the stainless steel artwork mounted on the bridge span day or night with lighting throughout this section of the trail. Both temporary and permanent retaining walls were used in this construction.
