Project Overview

Major reconstruction of Route 5

Union Concrete completed a major reconstruction of Route 5. The site was in an area closely surrounded by the waterfront and wetlands on one side, and the Buffalo River and commercial establishments on the other. During the course of the project, Union Concrete successfully dealt with numerous major design changes to accommodate more structures and architectural features. It started as a design-bid-build, but morphed into a design-build type project with NYSDOT due to the significant changes driven by the community’s input. Several temporary and permanent retaining walls were constructed. The ever evolving project initiated an accelerated schedule to meet the previously established time frame. In order to accomplish this, Union Concrete worked directly with the Design Engineers to fast track the process.
