Project Overview

Union Concrete demolished the old Grand Island toll booths and re-constructed the former toll plazas. The location of the former toll plaza is a very high traffic location, so Union Concrete had to use a combination of phasing and night work to reduce the traffic impact of the construction activities. Union Concrete completed the conversion of the Grand Island Bridges to Cashless tolling under its emergency contract with the Thruway. It included installation of Gantries, Mechanical buildings, precast sensor slabs, electrical systems and necessary site civil work
