Union Concrete and Construction Corp. served as the prime contractor for the $8.3 million replacement of the Beaver Island Parkway Bridge over the Niagara Thruway (I-190) in Grand Island, New York.
The project replaced the original bridge, constructed in 1954, with a modern structure designed to improve safety, clearance, and traffic operations. Improvements included increasing the vertical clearance over I-190 from 14 feet 2 inches to 16 feet 9 inches, widening the travel lanes and emergency shoulders, installing new guiderail, and constructing a new concrete riding surface.
Construction required significant traffic coordination due to the bridge’s location over the heavily traveled I-190 corridor. Work included demolition of the existing structure, bridge construction, concrete and structural work, roadway reconstruction, drainage and earthwork, traffic control, pavement markings, and associated site improvements.
The completed bridge provides a safer and more durable connection for Grand Island residents, businesses, and visitors traveling to Beaver Island State Park and surrounding areas.
