Allegany State Quaker Park Trail System

Union Concrete constructed the first phase of the Quaker Area Multi-Use Trail at Allegany State Park, creating approximately 1.7 miles of paved recreational trail through wooded and wetland terrain, including new pedestrian bridges and timber boardwalks that expanded safe access for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the park.

Project Overview

A Stroll in the Park

As part of Allegany State Park’s Quaker Trail system, a new trail has been constructed for campers, hikers and cyclists alike, from the Quaker Store east to the Taft Cabin near Equestrian Trail 15. Most of the stretch comprises a 12′ wide asphalt surface, and four pedestrian bridges were built to span the existing creeks and wetlands.

Union Concrete was also the low bidder on two additional contracts that were also let for the procurement, removal and replacement of existing Camp 6 and Gypsy Trail bridges with prefabricated steel bridges.

When working within NYS Parks, projects are scheduled and coordinated to minimize any and all impact on patrons.

The Gypsy Trail bridge substructure concrete was placed behind the existing abutments. No longer structural, these abutments remain as erosion control to protect the new.

Promenade

The trail includes two elevated wooden boardwalks.

The pedestrian bridges range from 40′ to 80′ long.
