Our History
A Rich History Spanning Over 70 Years
1950
Union Concrete was founded
In February of 1950, George Hill, a union carpenter from New Jersey who served in Buffalo with the Coast Guard during the war and settled there afterwards, starts Union Concrete and Construction Corp. The company began as a residential and commercial foundation contractor.
1950-1959
Union Concrete completes numerous residential and commercial foundation projects all over Western New York
1959
Union Concrete completes its first public works project
The company completes its first public works project as the prime contractor with the replacement of a bridge deck in North Tonawanda over the Erie Canal.
Early 1960's
Union Concrete completes first new bridge in company’s history
Union Concrete completes first new bridge in company’s history, the Aldrich St village bypass in Gowanda.
Union Concrete completes bridge replacement of Rte. 62/East Main St in Village of Gowanda. First bridge in the area to use prestressed concrete girders. Union Concrete cast the girders onsite.
1963
Union Concrete starts self-performing concrete paving work
Late 1960's
Union Concrete acquires one of its asphalt paving subcontractors, Vogtli & Sons and starts self- performing asphalt paving
1970
The company completes its first million dollar project
$1,192,781 project at the Jamestown Airport involving a major expansion of the terminal apron and construction of new taxiways. This project marked the company’s foray into airport work.
1977
The company buys the first rotary milling machine in WNY
The company buys the first rotary milling machine in Western New York and expands into bridge deck rehabilitation work. This becomes a mainstay of the company’s work over the next twenty years.
1980's
George’s children become heavily involved in the company
George’s children Bob Hill, Gary Hill and Jodi Hill Osinski all become heavily involved in the company and take over management from their father. The company continues highway and bridge work all over Western New York.
1989
Union Concrete starts work on a major deck rehabilitation project on the Skyway over Buffalo’s inner harbor
2000
The company celebrates its 50th anniversary
2006
Union Concrete starts work on the $55 million Rte. 5 and Fuhrman Blvd Reconstruction Project for the New York State Department of Transportation
2013
Union Concrete completes the largest project in its history
The $89 million Road Reconstruction Project between mileposts 438.5 and 451.5 for the New York State Thruway Authority.
2015
Longtime employees Jeff Bauer and Jack Ford are rewarded for decades of service and become officers of the company.
2017
Union Concrete successfully completes the $60 million Gateway Connections Project
The company successfully completes the $60 million Gateway Connections Project at the Peace Bridge for the New York State Department of Transportation. This is the most challenging and complex project in the company’s history.
2021
Union Concrete’s transition to its third generation of management is well under way
Jeff Bauer, Jack Ford, Bob Hill and Jodi Hill Osinski retire as officers of Union Concrete. Matt Bliss becomes Vice President and Nickolaus Osinski becomes Secretary/Treasurer.
